Crafting Wood with Japanese Techniques

Long Waterfall Tansu

Part of a suite of coordinating designs completed as part of the Kyoto on the Mississippi project.

This entry console features 12 drawers and 3 double door storage sections along its 14 foot length. Supported by two structural glass panels, a substantial Douglas Fir live edge slab wraps the cabinet with a distinctive waterfall joint, allowing the grain to transition from flat to vertical seamlessly. Similarly, single board cut from a Port Orford Cedar slab forms the raw stock for all of the doors and drawer faces so that the natural grain flow is maintained.
